# World comes together to discuss endangered wildlife trade

With a [recent report](https://wwf.panda.org/wwf_news/?346736/Global-Assessment-report-on-state-of-nature-offers-irrefutable-evidence-of-nature-loss-emphasising-the-urgent-need-for-transformative-change) warning that we could lose as many as one million species in coming decades, it’s vital that the wildlife trade is properly regulated.

WWF is therefore calling on the forthcoming meeting of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) to take strong action to safeguard the future of many species.

The meeting will bring together governments, national and international enforcement agencies, and NGOs to review progress on wildlife trade issues, update international trade regulations for threatened species, and strengthen the management of this trade.

We urge governments to recognize the serious threat of unsustainable wildlife trade, to acknowledge the key drivers of this trade, and to hold other governments accountable for failing to meet commitments to protecting threatened species.

Issues that will be discussed include the trade in ivory trade, tiger parts and marine turtles.
