Everywhere you look, people are talking about COP21 and the need for a deal to emerge from what is slated to be the one of the planet’s biggest climate conferences. The topics, the timelines and the talk in general can get confusing so we decided to take the bull by the horns and break it down to the lowest common denominator. Read on to understand COP21 in 26 letters…its almost as simple as learning your ABCs! Get started with letters A - E in part 1 of this series, enjoy ;)

A for Agreement: what the world is hoping for from Paris is an agreement that will help steer the planet away from catastrophic climate change. If agreed by the member governments of the UN, it will be the first global agreement that will apply to all countries and legally commit them to action on climate change.

B for Bold: to keep global temperature rise to less than 2 degrees Celsius, we need bold targets from countries as they set their respective climate plans for the period 2020 – 2025 or 2030, called Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs).

C for Collaboration: it will take everyone  - governments, the private sector and civil society – to tackle the planet’s biggest environmental challenge. No one causes climate change in isolation and no one can tackle it alone.

D for Decision: the clock is ticking and it is time for a decision that makes climate history by charting a new path towards changing climate change.

E for Energy: the question of energy is central to curb emissions and the WWF Energy Report shows a 100% renewable world by 2050 is possible!
